Fresno County Supervisors will vote on whether to prevent air pollution and other health hazards from new and expanding mega-dairies. Join us in delivering a strong message to the Supervisors: doctors, clergy, health advocates, and working families will not abandon this issue until Fresno County protects our health from rapidly expanding mega-dairy growth.

Here are the details:

Fresno County Board of Supervisors Meeting
Tuesday, October 23, 2:00PM
County Hall of Records, 3rd Floor
2281 Tulare Street
Fresno, CA 9372

At its last meeting, the Planning Commission declined to add air quality measures to the ordinance leaving the important decision to our County Supervisors. Commissioners did accept inadequate dairy buffers and stripped the ordinance of ground water protections against staff recommendations. However, the Supervisors can strengthen buffer zones and ground water protections on the 23rd.

The vast majority of comments at this meeting asked the county to set stricter rules for dairies to reduce rising pollution levels. Over
150 people attended a workshop hosted by Fresno County to share public comment
on the first draft ordinance. Although the first draft includes some positive safeguards like buffer zones, it lacks standards for protecting public health, such as landfill-grade lagoon liners, enclosed barns, lagoon covers, or feed area covers. It also lacks any comprehensive enforcement and monitoring provisions, meaning there's no way to know how the new regulations will be enforced.  Click here to view comments from this public meeting.
